Estate Planning and Survivor Benefits Entitlements-No, They’re Not What You Think!

There is so much misinformation about the benefits available to the survivors of veterans! Why? Benefits can change depending on whether the death was on active duty or post service! Also, some benefits must be established by the veteran before they pass away. Many veterans make assumptions that benefits will be available for their survivors, but the reality is they won’t qualify. Plus, after service all benefits survivors are eligible for will require applications! So, many survivors fail to get benefits because they don’t even apply. This session will navigate the eligibility requirements for various survivor benefits from DoD and the VA and explain the realities of benefits so estate planning can account for financial gaps in entitlements. We will also explore some misunderstood benefits that are included with SGLI and VGLI policies.
